If the ones in the case are the real deal...then they are marked as real diamonds, gemstones, CZ's....

If they are man created or lab grown gemstones, they are marked as such...if they are moissanite they are also marked as such.

It's against the law to sell a customer a gemstone that is not what the customer thinks they are getting..they cannot pass off a cz for a diamond, a lab grown emerald for a natural one, etc....which is why you get a ring appraised ALWAYS..and if the place will not guarentee in writing that the stone is what they say it is-NO SALE!

The vast majority of white gold rings in the jeweler's case are plated with rhodium..the dead give away is the appearance...bright shiny mirror white...only sterling or rhodium plating acheives that bright white color and mirror shine.

If you are unsure-ask.True top quality white gold is a soft gray-silver...and no matter how much it's polished, it never acheives that mirror shine that you get with silver or rhodium.

To get an unplated white gold setting you would have to do business with a private goldsmith or buy estate/antique/vintage pieces that at least 30-40 years old...or have one custom made.

My one daughter recently got engaged..her ring is a vintage white gold piece from the 1920's...gorgeous and NOT plated.

edit: the give away with most CZ's, even the really good ones is rainbowing...move the ring around. If you see any flashes of yellow or orange, no matter how subtle, the odds are it's moissanite or a cz...diamonds flash grays and gray-blues-there should be no hint of yellow or orange. Also, borrow a jeweler's loop..if the stone has no inclusions, no inperfection no matter how small, then it's NOT a natural diamond..it's either a gemstone that can often have no imperfections such as white sapphires..or it's man made.

But get that written guarentee and have it appraised by an independent source.

Have you looked on eBay? The choices on there are just about endless, so you should be able to find something you like. My only advice would be to start a paypal account if you don't have one so your purchase is protected. Good Luck!

Check out this site for hypoallergenic nickel free wedding rings:
http://www.greenkarat.com/detail.asp?product_id=WBPD001

All jewelry that is less than 100% gold (24K) or 100% silver is an alloy, and most alloys contain nickel. 24K gold is very expensive and too soft for most rings, although I have one I bought from SNBC (a TV shopping channel). I wouldn't wear it every day, as I have to shape it back to round when I wear it. A better solution is to use stainless steel jewelry. It looks like silver or white gold and is 100% hypoallergenic.

Too many people worry about size, clarity, color, blah, blah, blah. The important part is if he twists off a pop cap, and places it on your finger, and you fall in love with it...then keep it. The choice is yours. Don't let others dictate what you should and shouldn't wear.

Should I get these rings?
I have found some beautiful wedding rings. My fiance wants to replace my engagement ring because he knows that I really wanted a blue sapphire. I don't care about or want diamonds at all. I found this beautiful band and then a matching ring that could go with it but they are sterling silver and the ring portion has a CZ on it but has sapphires. They are made from Tacori so im not worried about the quality too much I trust that brand. I was thinking of having the rings coated in white gold, rhodium or even platinum since the rings are so cheap. They are like 75 dollars for the set. It isn't about the money I just love the design work and the settings. Check them out and tell me what you think. Are they worth it?

Are the wedding rings in the display case at your typical jeweler...?
....set with a diamond or cubic zirconia? I'm not an expert on differentiating between the two, but shopping yesterday I'm pretty sure the rings in the case were CZ...is this typical?

...and are the white gold rings typically rhodium-plated or otherwise plated? They just seemed too white to be just white gold.

Jewelry is a whole other world! I'm learning so much!
