Is a wedding band with a thinner back side poorly made?
I found a custom wedding band at a jewelers and haven’t seen anything similar – it’s platinum, 2mm along the front (with diamond fragments inlay – under 1/4 karat), and thinner along the back. I’m concerned about the durability of a ring that’s under 2 mm. I read somewhere that rings that are thinner along the back can be poorly made (since it’s a way to use less metal).
When I described the style to another jeweler he said it was an old-fashioned look, but I find the look of the contemporary wedding bands to be very plain.
Wedding band engraving…?
My engagement ring has a 2mm band, and I have seen ladies with similar rings match it with a 2mm wedding band. I think it looks really nice together, but my fiance’ and I want to engrave something on the inside of our wedding bands, and I don’t think 2mm would be wide enough for an engraving? His band will be 4mm, so it isn’t a problem. Would a 4mm look good with such a nice band? Also what would, or have, you all engraved on your bands?
Shopping for a wedding band, please help!?
my engagement ring is a 3 stone diamond ring about 2mm in width. I can’t afford my matching band right away so i’ve been shopping around for plain bands. I’ve tried on 2mm bands to match the width of my engagement ring but it just seems to get lost next to the diamonds. Do you think it will look funny to get a 3mm band which is a bit wider than my other ring? I just don’t want it to look weird on my finger. Do any of you have a wedding band wider than your engagement ring and how does it look? Any and all opinions appreciated.
Opinions on wedding bands?
First off, sorry so long!!!
So, I have known for years what type of engagement ring I wanted. I was hoping for a good quality, round brilliant solitaire, in a six-prong setting. When the time came, my fiance got me the ring of my dreams, an .86 carat, G, VVS2, VG cut round brilliant solitaire. I adore how beautiful and simple it is. The problem, I can’t find a wedding band to go with it. At first I was looking at something like this:
http://www.jared.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1%7C10451%7C10001%7C-1%7C40656807%7C19061%7C19061.19079
I thought it was simple, pretty, and highlighted my solitaire. I never was really in LOVE with it though, it was just the best of what I looked at. Over time, though, I started to not like it that much. It seemed a bit too thick and metallic. I then looked at doing something like this:
http://www.jared.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1%7C10451%7C10001%7C-1%7C40723203%7C19061%7C19061.19079
It is thinner and I loved the pronged look but then I realized that it really does nothing to highlight my solitaire and in fact sort of overshadows it which is the last thing I want to do.
Somewhere along the way I looked at a plain, 2mm white band to go with my solitaire and I really like it.

It is not something I even bothered to look at in the first place but it doesn’t take away from my stone, is really simple, and timeless. I don’t really like one channel or pronged band because I liked the symetrical look of an enhancer but with the plain band it doesn’t really bother me just having the one band.
My problem is that whenever I mention that I am looking at a plain wedding band to people though and they look at me like I am an idiot for not getting something with diamonds in it. Everyone keeps telling me that it doesn’t look flashy enough but do I really need a flashy wedding/engagement ring. I know I will be getting diamond jewelry throughout my life so it’s not like this is it in the way of “bling.” Having heard what I am kind of looking for would you go with one of the other diamond enhancers or go with the plain band?

This is the only picture I have of my ring.
Your opinion please! Would these look good together?
My wedding ring looks like this:

It it 1/4 carat marquise solitaire (14k white gold)
My husband and I would like to get matching anniversary bands, but he wants Tungsten, so it doesn’t scratch or anything. They would look like this…
His:

Mine:

OR

Which would look the best? Do they even match? Could I put the Tungsten ring under my wedding ring?
I love the thought of engraving rings. My parents have theirs engraved & I think it’s very special. A 2mm might be too small to engrave, but the best option is to go into the store and speak with the salesperson. You never know what will they be able to do.
If the 2mm doesn’t work, it’s your own personal preference what you want for size of the ring. You have to decide if it looks good and which you want to compromise.
I have seen beautiful 4mm rings with diamonds on top and bottom almost like an eternity band but not with the diamonds all around the side.
Yep, I agree….it’s thinner in the back for comfort reasons. With most well-made rings…they often times have a thinner back to them for this reason. But, with any ring you get….I would get some sort of insurance on it…right at the jewelry store…so if it breaks somehow or gets lost you’ll be able to replace it….
Congratulations!
I have a white gold engagement ring too and my husband and I have a matching pair of tungsten wedding bands also and we love them. We got ours at http://www.larsonjewelers.com/
Tungsten is actually a darker grey than white gold. The colors do not match my engagement ring but I’m ok with it because my husband loves tungsten rings.
If you need the colors to match, you could go with palladium wedding bands. The customer service rep told us that the colors on palladium do match white gold and if you get their benchmark palladium wedding bands, they all come with a free lifetime warranty.
If you do go with tungsten, you should make sure they offer a free lifetime warranty. A friend of mine ordered a ring online and the company sent her the wrong size, they had the audacity to charge her extra for a new size and they called it a “restocking fee”. We kept an eye out and noticed a lot of companies like to charge you “deductibles” and hidden fees.
What type of return policy do they offer? Is it a 30 day return policy? Some companies only give you 10 days for an exchange and it takes three to five days to get the ring, then you have a day to figure out if you want to keep the ring.
Make sure the company you’re buying your ring from offers Free Shipping too. If you are paying for shipping, then something is wrong.
3mm is not extremely wide. It will probably look very nice next to your 3 stone engagement ring. You could also try a 2.5mm width. The difference is very subtle, but it might help bump up the presence of the band.
I think the plain one compliments your engagement ring the best. Your solitaire is beautiful, and the plain band play up its beauty. Who cares what other people think? Go for it!
